Strengthening Libraries and the Community

Help the Friends of Washoe County Library grow the Washoe County Library System’s Children’s and Young Adult collections in advance of the Summer Reading Program!
The Summer Reading Program, in conjunction with the Library System’s 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten and 100 Books Before Graduation initiatives, help prepare children in our community for an early start in reading and learning and help develop young adults into lifelong readers. We hope that you will be able to join us in growing the book collections by supporting this campaign.
Why does this matter?
Research shows that the most reliable predictor of school success is being read to during early childhood. Reading to children from an early age can help close the vocabulary gap and prepare children to enter kindergarten with the skills necessary for success. Most importantly, sharing books with children and young adults promotes a lifelong love of books and reading.
Where will the money go?
At the close of the campaign, all money raised for our Spring for a Book campaign will be given to the Collections Development Manager at the Washoe County Library System, earmarked as funds to help add materials to the Children’s and Young Adult book collections within the Library System.
