What do the Friends Fund?
Summer Reading Program
Young readers can lose an entire grade level over the summer. The Summer Reading Program offers an engaging way for children and young adults to maintain and improve their reading skills, while enjoying live performances and earning books and other prizes. The Friends provides the Summer Reading Challenge prize books.
Library Programming
The Friends provides funding for a variety of programming at the library. Examples include: Young Shakespeare: As You Like It presented by D.G. Menchetti Education Programs, Wild Things presented by Conservation Ambassadors and A Magical Journey Awaits You with Phil Ackerly.
Staff Development
The Friends fund fees and travel expenses so that library staff may attend conferences. In addition to out-of-town events, the Friends help fund staff enrichment. None of our funds are used for library salaries.
Library Materials
The Friends help to provide supplementary funding for book purchases.
STEAM Programming
The Friends provide funding for 3D printing materials and STEAM programming supplies.
Since 1991 the Friends have raised over $2,879,000 to support the Washoe County Library System.
When you support the Friends, you support the library system!
